According to what was established in UNESCO ´s International Commission Report concerning Education in the XXI century, learning to know, to do, to live together and to be are the four fundamentals of contemporary education and must be pursued by the educational policy of every country. This reveals the urgency for a new concept of education in which there is no place for the arrogance of crystalized knowledge in the school curricula, but there should be new ethics promoting the preservation of human dignity through respect for the differences as well as solidarity and mutual respect.
The Building Peace in Schools program was developed from the strong belief that this is possible. The project aims to qualify both teachers and pedagogues for educating for peace through transdisciplinary methodology that will:
•Stimulate a new concept of thinking, to encourage both social and self-transformation processes as well as to contribute to the formation of new agents that will be responsible for the promotion of changes.
•Provide tools to be used in the systematization of the pedagogical action that will guarantee the consolidation of the experiences that promote peace instead of violence.
•Offer appropriate methodology to implement Education for Peace Programs in schools, in accordance with UNESCO.
•Contribute to the strengthening of an Education for Peace world network.
